Excavation in Douglas County

Digging, earthmoving, and site shaping for foundations, utilities, ponds, and access, done with a full-size machine.

Excavation covers the digging and earthmoving that gets a project off the ground, from foundation holes and utility trenches to ponds, road cuts, and reshaping a site so it drains the way it should. We bring a full-size excavator and the trucking to move material, so the job moves at a steady pace and finishes when we said it would.

What affects the price

Every parcel is different, so the cost depends on the job. These are the things that move the number, named plainly so you can see where your project lands.

Depth and volume of the digMoving more dirt, or digging deeper, takes more machine hours and more truck loads.
Soil and rockClean dirt digs fast. Rock, hardpan, and heavy clay slow the work and sometimes call for the breaker attachment.
Hauling distanceHow far spoils have to travel to a disposal or fill site affects trucking time.
Site accessTight or steep access means slower, more careful work than open ground.
Whether the dirt stays or goesReusing material on site is cheaper than importing fill or exporting spoils.

The equipment for this job

Built for the heavy work

Excavation is where our equipment really shows. The 30,000 lb excavator reaches deeper and lifts heavier than a compact machine, and our hydraulic breaker takes on rock and hardpan that would stop a smaller rig. Paired with the semi dump truck, we can dig and haul in the same day.

Excavation questions

Is excavation priced by the hour or by the job?

Both are common. Open-ended or hard-to-predict work is often billed hourly, while a clearly defined dig is better as a flat quote so you know the total. Hourly excavation in this region commonly runs from about $40 to $400 an hour depending on the machine and operator. We will tell you which pricing fits your job and why.

Can you dig through rock and hardpan?

Yes. Our excavator runs a hydraulic breaker for exactly this. Douglas County has plenty of rocky hillsides and hardpan, so we plan for it rather than getting surprised by it mid-job.

Do you handle utility trenches and foundation digs together?

We do. Many site projects need a foundation hole, footing drains, and utility runs, and doing them in one mobilization saves you money and keeps the schedule tight.

What do you do with the dirt you dig out?

When the soil is good we try to reuse it on site for backfill or grading, which lowers your cost. When it has to leave, our dump truck hauls it in full loads instead of many small trips.
